Avellanas Soul Surf School is certified by the International Surf Association and ILS Water Safety. Based in Playa Avellanas, Costa Rica the beach offers good waves all year long. We are a surf school with 15 years surfing experience. We coach all levels from beginner to intermediate and advanced. Our goal is to teach everyone the right technique from the beginning to have a good foundation to keep improving in surfing. We want everyone learning how to surf to have fun on their journey and fulfill their dream of becoming a surfer.

Learn to surf with Julio, he’s the best! 🏄♂️🙏
Julio = Best surf instructor! My kids (10 and 6) and I took lessons with Julio and everyone got up and rode incredible waves. He taught us all the fundamentals and was so patient, kind, and most of all made it fun and easygoing for them. He helped correct my stance so I was able to stand up and ride with more confidence. The kids were nervous at first but couldn’t wait to go with him again - both days were perfect! We will absolutely be back to Playa Avellanas and surf with Julio again!!

Best surf school in the area!
Julio is hands down the most passionate, patient and knowledgeable surf instructor you could have in Costa Rica – He works with you at your own pace, skill level and ensures you have the fundamentals and safety skills on the beach before he takes you out. I suggest taking 2-4 lessons – while in one lesson you’ll be standing up in the white water, by the 4th you’ll be paddling yourself out to the line up with him guiding you along the way.Can’t say enough about my experience and will be back next year with Avellanas Soul Surf School.

Professional and Fun Surf Lessons!
Julio and his team will have you surfing and having fun in no time. Julio reviews safety and form tips prior to getting in water and gives encouragement and critique before catching every wave. Julio is engaged the whole lesson and wants you to learn. I took multiple lessons and worth every cent.
